The Bettermaker SPE, or Stereo Passive Equalizer, is the perfect solution for those looking for a Pultec-style analog equalizer that offers excellent results and the ability to quickly and precisely recall settings. This is crucial for recording, mixing, and mastering.

SPE combines a 100% analog signal path, inspired by legendary vintage EQ processors, with mastering sound quality and a patented quick setup recall system comparable to native plug-ins.

Stereo Passive Equalizer Limited Edition offers:
  • Fully analog signal path.
  • USB connectivity to Mac/PC.
  • Control of all parameters from your favorite DAW (via a dedicated plug-in).
  • Stereo, passive equalizer with extended hi-boost section ('air bands' in the 20 and 28 kHz ranges).
  • Possibility to adjust the output signal (+/-8 dB).
    Digital section

Although the SPE equalizer's sound is based on fully analog filters and precisely matched capacitors and inductors, its operation is controlled digitally. This significantly speeds up and simplifies workflow, and introduces new possibilities not available in standard analog equalizers:
    • Instant reset of all parameters.
    • Fast, precise and repeatable settings.
    • Precise stereo equalization with easy control when using two SPE equalizers.
    • DAW automation and the ability to recall all parameters.

It's worth noting that the SPE's digital section is based on a high-speed 32-bit microcontroller, powered by dedicated firmware (upgradable via USB). The microcontroller manages the analog filter operation, user interface, presets, audio metering, USB connectivity, and other functions.

    DAW integration

The SPE communicates with your chosen DAW via USB (it appears in Device Manager as "HID device") and doesn't require a special driver. However, you will need to download a compatible VST3/AU/AAX plug-in from our website and add it to your session. This will allow you to fully control the device from your DAW.
